APPALOOSA,
GREY HARLEQUIN,
MODERN GREY,
ROAN
& MULTI COLOR

All five colors are not so common among alpacas, but have recently become very fashionable.  We cannot escape the trend, as we have always found Harlequin Grey and Modern Grey particularly beautiful. So we visited the best breeders in the world such as NZ Summerhills, EP Cambridge, Popham Alpacas as well as Canchones in time to make a breeding selection with them.  Shirley Grant from NZ Summerhills in particular has brought Apaloosa breeding a long way forward. Many animals in Europe are descended from her breed. Unfortunately, she has left the market as a breeder, so we are now concentrating on new resources. The focus is now primarily on fleece quality.

Apaloosa

When it comes to “Appis”, a distinction is made between Leopard Appaloosa, Pinto and Reverse Appaloosa. We only have  Leopard Appaloosas and the colors listed below.

Harlequin Gray

Harlequin Gray is difficult to describe. They are gray alpacas without white spots. Mostly they have dark spots on the face and also all over the body. They are often born light and then darken each year until they often appear almost black. They carry a different gene than "typical" gray alpacas.

Roan

The New Zealand Breeding Association describes the color roan as follows: "A roan is an alpaca that is brown, black, medium or dark fawn with a significant amount of easily visible white fibers consistently distributed throughout the entire fleece once the fleece is opened. From the exterior roans may not appear to have white fibers at all, often appearing as the base color when viewed from a
distance....".

Multicolor

Multicolored alpacas are alpacas that do not fit into any other color category. By definition, a multi is:

 a) 3 or more spots larger than 2 inches or

 b) 2 or more colors.

So Appaloosas would also be multis, but they are so exciting that a separate category has been created for them.
