HCH ALPACAS
APALOOSA & GRAY HARLEQUIN & MODERN GREY
All three colors are rather rare in alpacas, but have recently become very fashionable. We can't escape the trend because we've always found Harlequin Gray and Modern Gray particularly beautiful. So we visited the best breeders in the world like NZ Summerhills, EP Cambridge, Popham Alpacas as well as Canchones in good time and made a breed selection with them. In particular Shirley Grant from NZ Summerhills has brought Apaloosa breeding forward. Very many animals in Europe are descended from their breeding. Unfortunately she left the market as a breeder.

Harlequin Gray
Harlequin Gray is difficult to describe. They are gray alpacas without white spots. Mostly they have dark spots on the face and also all over the body. They are often born light and then darken each year until they often appear almost black. They carry a different gene than "typical" gray alpacas.

Roan
The New Zealand Breeding Association describes the color roan as follows: "A roan is an alpaca that is brown, black, medium or dark fawn with a significant amount of easily visible white fibers consistently distributed throughout the entire fleece once the fleece is opened. From the exterior roans may not appear to have white fibers at all, often appearing as the base color when viewed from a
distance....".

Modern Gray

Multicolor
Multicolored alpacas are alpacas that do not fit into any other color category. By definition, a multi is:
a) 3 or more spots larger than 2 inches or
b) 2 or more colors.
So Appaloosas would also be multis, but they are so exciting that a separate category has been created for them.
